You may be reading this on your computer, or maybe on your tablet or smart phone. We don’t really know the long term effects of all these screens we stare at every day, but we do know some simple ways to protect your eyes and vision while using them. We don’t have to be afraid that they will harm our vision if we use our eyes correctly while using them. You want to make sure you blink a lot more frequently and take a lot more regular breaks from looking at the screen. Use the 20-20-20 rule when doing any up close work. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet or farther for at least 20 seconds before returning to your work. Take little palming breaks while working at your desk. Avoid holding mobile screens too close to your eyes. There are lots of free apps and softwares you can download like flux that can help decrease eyestrain when working on the computer at night and don’t affect your sleep cycles as much. For more information, watch the video below that talks more about how we can learn how to peacefully coexist with technology and actually using it for improving vision instead of harming it.
